These days the railways are busy raising barricades between platforms across various stations between Virar to Churchgate To me it was long impending Don't know why the railways took so long to construct these But its better late than never At least these ensures that less people cross the tracks and even lesser number of accidents For the daily commuter's it could result in faster services The barricades will also force people to use the footover bridges and subway (at few stations) that have been constructed to esure safety However there is a major task on hand for the railways That is to understand the basic reasons why people take to crossing the tracks   They range from saving time to narrow foot over bridges that easily get crowded to lack of subways It therefore becomes of utmost importance to complement the barricades by addressing the issues why people cross the tracks Having said that I would like to laud the railways for their effort and hope that they cont...

Railways drive against crossing of tracks (29-06-2009)

Almost about a month ago I had commended the railways for erecting barricades across the stations This time round the railways are again in news with the ongoing drive to create awareness about crossing of tracks and curb people from doing so This time round they using every trick in the book to ensure success, right from humiliating people to sharing incidents of lost lives and close brush with death And they have my whole hearted support. However I still have some reservation about the success of such drives No doubt they will be successful but the impact will be limited until and unless it supported by necessary and adequate infrastructure to curb people from taking to crossing the tracks The necessary and adequate infrastructure means providing people with 1) Sufficient number of foot over bridges and subways minimum 2 to 3 per station 2) Broad foot over bridges with broad staircase most stations the either the foot over bridges or staircase or both are too narrow leadin...
