Test Cricket Dead.....No way

Whoever said that test cricket is on it's way to breathing it's last, needs to seriously rethink. With the recently concluded test series between India - Sri Lanka, New Zealand - Pakistan, Australia - West Indies and the ongoing test series between England - South Africa, Australia - Pakistan is something go by test cricket is going from strength to strength. I definitely enjoyed every bit of these matches. They were edge of the seat thrillers and over the days they were played it was really difficult to predict who would come out on the top and that was the beauty of it. What has been astounding is adaptability shown by players like Shane Watson, Gautam Gambhir, Umar Akmal, Adrian Barath, among others thought to be specialist of shorter version standing up to deliver when it mattered the most in the longer form of the game. Contrary to the belief that the shorter games would eat into the longer version of the game, they have significantly contributed to the competiti

Barricades at the railway station (13-05-2009)

These days the railways are busy raising barricades between platforms across various stations between Virar to Churchgate To me it was long impending Don't know why the railways took so long to construct these But its better late than never At least these ensures that less people cross the tracks and even lesser number of accidents For the daily commuter's it could result in faster services The barricades will also force people to use the footover bridges and subway (at few stations) that have been constructed to esure safety However there is a major task on hand for the railways That is to understand the basic reasons why people take to crossing the tracks   They range from saving time to narrow foot over bridges that easily get crowded to lack of subways It therefore becomes of utmost importance to complement the barricades by addressing the issues why people cross the tracks Having said that I would like to laud the railways for their effort and hope that they continue e

Pappu Pass Ho Gaya...........(18-12-2009)

This is story of Pappu. Pappu who one fine day realised he had to add something to his credentials in order to become something. What this ‘something’ is what Pappu has never realized till date. Nevertheless Pappu got himself enrolled in a PTMBA program. Since the department where Pappu worked for organization was referred to as HR (yehch aar…some people also joked about it being aachar)….he opted out HR. And lo behold!!! A Manager….A VP ….A CEO was born……&hel lip;.. (it’s a different story the world didn’t take note of it). But then Pappu knew that with the exception of Jesus (this too as far his knowledge was concerned) being the only person who was noticed at the time of his birth and that too by a handful of shepherds and three kings the rest others this including Bill Gates, Mahatma Gandhi, Dhirubai Ambani, Einstein, and whole lot of others (all these whole lot of others whom Pappu cannot name is for the simple reason he tells you your time would run out but its not time, it

Railways drive against crossing of tracks (29-06-2009)

Almost about a month ago I had commended the railways for erecting barricades across the stations This time round the railways are again in news with the ongoing drive to create awareness about crossing of tracks and curb people from doing so This time round they using every trick in the book to ensure success, right from humiliating people to sharing incidents of lost lives and close brush with death And they have my whole hearted support. However I still have some reservation about the success of such drives No doubt they will be successful but the impact will be limited until and unless it supported by necessary and adequate infrastructure to curb people from taking to crossing the tracks The necessary and adequate infrastructure means providing people with 1) Sufficient number of foot over bridges and subways minimum 2 to 3 per station 2) Broad foot over bridges with broad staircase most stations the either the foot over bridges or staircase or both are too narrow leading to crea
